Ethics CLE: IOLTA Basics – How to Do It Right
Lawyers are required under Rule of Professional Conduct 1.15 to safeguard client funds using an IOLTA (Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts) account. But often, lawyers don’t know the Rules, or were never taught how to handle their IOLTA accounts properly, leading to errors and, potentially, disciplinary action, including loss of their law licenses.
This program, approved for one ethics CLE in Pennsylvania, will explain the basics of how to setup an IOLTA account and how to handle the account and avoid ethical problems. This is a practical course for lawyers and for anyone who works with lawyers handling IOLTA accounts. The course is taught by legal ethics attorney Daniel J. Siegel, who is Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Committee on Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility, and who regularly represents and assists attorneys with disciplinary and ethical matters relating to their IOLTA accounts.
